General comments
ernstige B.divergens en ernstige B. microti: medische urgentie. Wisseltransfusie (2-3x het volledige bloedvolume), gevolgd door clindamycine iv + kinine po.
Er is sprake van een ernstige infectie in de volgende situaties: parasitemie ≥ 10%, ernstige hemolyse of nier-, lever- of longaandoeningen.
Risicofactoren voor een ernstige infectie zijn asplenie, veroudering, en afweerstoornissen.
